Keith Urban is a Kiwi country music singer born in 1967. In the gossip columns there is a danger that he has become more famous for his highly publicized marriage to Nicole Kidman and his ongoing stints in rehab, but his platinum-selling albums suggest otherwise.
His career started while he was very young, as he had left school and hit the road with his band at just 15. By the age of 23 he had signed to EMI and his first solo album appeared. In 1992 he moved to Nashville and formed Ranch. After a well-received eponymous album in 1997 he left the band to pursue a solo career. As a result of his time with Ranch he found he was in demand as a session musician and lent his guitar skills to Garth Brooks and The Dixie Chicks, among others.
He released his successful American debut solo Keith Urban in 1999, of which three tracks enjoyed success at the top of the country charts. His next album, Golden Road (2002) was even more successful, particularly the single "Somebody Like You" which spent a long time in the charts. Be Here (2004) was certified quadruple platinum and achieved crossover success, charting high in both the country and the mainstream charts. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing was released in 2006 and echoed his earlier successes.
