Biography

Edit

Saxophonist Kenny G is the most popular exponent of smooth jazz, having sold almost 50 million records in America alone. However, his music has often been the subject of criticism from jazz fans who claim it is bland and tasteless.

After several short term jobs including a brief stint for Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra, Kenny G launched his solo career in 1982 with his debut album Kenny G and followed it with 1983's G. Force and 1985's Gravity, all of which went platinum. His next album, 1986's Duotones was the most successful up to that point, reaching No.1 in the Jazz Album charts and No.6 on the Billboard 200. Breathless (1989) went on to become the best-selling instrumental album ever, with around 15 million copies sold. The album contains the track "Forever in Love" which was the 1993 Grammy Award winner for Best Instrumental Composition.

Throughout his career he has collaborated with a list of popular performers including Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole and Steve Miller.
