Biography

Edit

Kirk Franklin is a Texas-born singer whose blend of R&B and gospel has brought him gold- and platinum-selling records and recognition beyond the Christian music field.

He released his debut as Kirk Franklin and The Family, and the album spent two years in the gospel charts, ten months of which were at No.1. After the gold-selling second and third albums, he joined up with God’s Property for the release of God's Property From Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation. The album got to No.1 on the R&B charts and No.3 in the Pop charts, eventually going on to triple platinum sales, and earning them a Grammy award for Best Gospel Album by a Choir or Chorus. He teamed up with Salt (from Salt n’ Pepa) on the single “Stomp”, and the pair spent two weeks at the top of the R&B singles chart. He collaborated with other mainstream performers on his follow-up album, working with R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige and Bono. Subsequent releases have all sold well, in particular the platinum-certified Hero album, which features contributions from Stevie Wonder and Yolanda Adams.
