Biography

Edit

Singer-songwriter and actor Kris Kristofferson was a talented sportsman and writer as a youth, and trained to be a helicopter pilot in the US Army. But at 29 he took a big risk by resigning and moving to Nashville to pursue a music career. The risk paid off, as Kristofferson wrote several hit songs for other artists (including Jerry Lee Lewis, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and girlfriend Janis Joplin), and commenced an award-winning solo career of his own. In the mid-70s he focussed on an acting career that took in films such as Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Convoy and A Star Is Born. In 1985, Kristofferson formed a country supergroup with Jennings, Cash and Willie Nelson, called The Highwaymen. In ten years they released three albums, the most successful of which was their first, Highwayman.
