K(ate) T Tunstall, singer-songwriter, was born in June 1975 and was raised near St Andrews, Scotland with her adoptive family. She is of half Chinese/Irish descent and it is understood that her birth father, who she has never met, was a folk singer. This background is indicative of her current musical style which draws on the acoustic folk genre.

She spent her twenties playing in bands and working on her songwriting and, by the end of 2004, she had released her first award winning album Eye to the Telescope. Its release was helped by a well appreciated appearance on British television's Later with Jools Holland. Indeed, her live performances have been critical in building her reputation.

In 2006 she released KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza followed by a second studio album Drastic Fantastic in 2007.
