A Thousand Fans Make A Thousand Suns No.1
Sep, 23 2010
Sometimes a No.1 album sells less than 100,000 copies in its chart-topping week, and sometimes a No.1 album sells ten times that number. While the record label's accountant will notice the difference, for the artist there's a huge honor in achieving a No.1, no matter what the number is. Linkin Park have A Thousand Fans to give special thanks to for their third successive No.1 album, because that's the relatively tiny number by which they beat Trey Songz on the Billboard 200 this week.
Linkin's A Thousand Suns sold 281,000 copies to top the chart, while Trey's Passion, Pain & Pleasure sold 280,000 to finish a very sore runner-up. Trey might be frustrated that his album wasn't released last week, when Sara Bareilles topped the chart with just 90,000 sales of Kaleidoscope Heart. That album took a tumble this week, landing down at No.12 with only 28,000 second-week sales.
There was a minor Recovery for Eminem's sixth major album, which jumped back up to No.3 (89,000) thanks to a 10% increase in sales. It's now just a week away from overtaking Lady Antebellum's Need You Now as the top-selling album of 2010. Jamey Johnson's double-disc The Guitar Song landed at No.4 (63,000) while Robert Plant's new Band of Joy hit No.5 (49,000).
