Biography

Edit

In the early 70s, Kenny Loggins was a songwriter, working for The Nitty Gritty Dirt band, when he met Jim Messina. At that point in his career, Messina, a former member of Poco, was a producer and it was his original intention to help Loggins to produce his debut solo album. But by the time the album was complete, Messina had contributed to such an extent that it was released with credit for the collaboration as Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin' In (1972).

The duo released a further five studio albums before, in 1977, the partnership ran out of steam and Loggins outgrew the mentorship of Messina. As a result, Loggins departed to concentrate on what would become a successful solo career. Messina's solo career did not achieve the same success and he eventually settled into a career as a songwriter and songwriting coach.

In 2005 Loggins and Messina reunited for the album Loggins and Messina Live - Sittin' In Again at Santa Barbara Bowl - which was a reprise of their similarly named debut.
