Biography

Edit

Nashville's Los Straightjackets describe themselves as 'Americas Instrumental Rock and Roll Combo'. They were formed by Eddie Angel and Danny Amis. The pair were joined by Jimmy Lester and Robert Gordon and spent a year performing as The Straitjackets. After a break, they reformed as Los Straitjackets, with the addition of Scott Esbeck. The band released their debut album, The Utterly Fantastic and Totally Unbelievable Sound of Los Straitjackets in 1995. The bands' appearance--all black clothes with the Mexican style wrestling masks--have helped to earn them a cult following. Their 2003 release, Rock 'N' Roll City, a collaboration with Chicago bluesman Eddy Clearwater, earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues record.

Two of the bands' albums were recorded for use as incidental music by TV and films, and they contributed music to 2000's film Psycho Beach Party. Los Straitjackets most recent release is 2007's Rock en Espanol Vol.1.
