The daughter of well-known American poet Miller Williams, Lucinda Williams is a three-time Grammy-winning country/folk singer-songwriter who was named “America's best songwriter” by TIME magazine in 2002.
Born in Louisiana, Williams was raised predominately in Mexico and parts of South America, and these Latin influences show themselves in her work. She has released eight solo albums but is most noted for Lucinda Williams (1988) and Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (1998), the latter of which even won Village Voice magazine's annual poll of several hundred music critics. Williams has also appeared on numerous albums with other artists such as Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Most recently Williams released West (2007), an album dealing with the death of her mother.
