Biography

Edit

Actor and rapper Ludacris has had four US Hot 100 No.1 hits, a hip-hop record he shares with Nelly.

He came to prominence with his second album Word of Mouf, which was his best-selling to date and was promoted by the singles "Sleepy Brown" and "Move Bitch". The album featured collaborations from fellow rappers Nate Dogg, Shawnna and Three 6 Mafia.

Ludacris earned a Grammy nomination for the 2003 release "Stand Up"; the Kanye West-produced single went double platinum and got to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The success of "Stand Up" helped to put the following album, Redlight District, to the top slot of the Billboard, R&B, and Rap album charts.

2006 saw the release of the hotly anticipated Release Therapy. The album is a double sided CD; the up-beat 'Therapy' side has collaborations from R. Kelly and Pharrell, while the other side, 'Release', is very much darker in its subject matter. With its split personality, fans were also divided, unsure as to whether it was his best or worst work. The Grammys came down on the positive side, awarding it the Best Rap Album title in 2007.

In addition to his recording career, Ludacris also has a number of acting credits, including the films 2 Fast, 2 Furious, Crash and Hustle & Flow.

Ludacris

Sep, 8 2009

"People are getting laid off, and now are looking for jobs. To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That's why I wanted to give back to those who need it," stated Ludacris as he gave away 20 cars to people who needed them in order to find or hold down jobs. The so-called LudaDay Giveaway invited Atlanta-area residents to write 300 word essays explaining why they needed a car. The result was over 4000 submissions which were read personally by the Grammy award-winning rapper and actor. Mading Duor’s harrowing and tragic story is reported to have touched Luda’s heart, and resulted in the award of a Nissan Maxima. The 33 year old immigrant from war-torn Sudan has a job in a school but has struggled to get to work; the new car will change all that: "I'm so happy, that I'm nervous. When I look at my new car, I say to myself, 'Is this really happening?'" This philanthropic giveaway is the latest in a long line of similar projects organised by Luda and his charitable foundation since its inception in 2001.

Ludacris

Every other day a musician seems to speak out with support for Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama; John McCain just doesn't seem to be as hip among young pop stars. But a campaign spokesman for Mr Obama had to issue a statement condemning a recent show of support from rapper Ludacris. A freestyle from the hip-hop star on a DJ Drama mixtape was bluntly critical of McCain, as well as Hillary Clinton, Jesse Jackson and George W. Bush. Camp Obama was forced to disassociate themselves from the impolite lyrics: "This song is not only outrageously offensive to Sen. Clinton, Rev. Jackson, Sen. McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics".
