Firstly, i do not know a whole lot about the 'symphonic metal' scene, although i am a big fan of Nightwish. As a result, i shall draw a couple of comparisons between the bands. Firstly, Lunatica has a far better drummer - far better than the over the top, Helloween style of Nightwish. The music too is in fact more sophisticated than the Finn's, though less 'full on'. The songs don't always flow freely, although after a few listens one gets used to it.

I'm sure no one listens to this type of music for the lyrics - Lunatica's are total fluff, even by the genre's standards.

A big bonus is the vocals - although nowhere near as strong as the singer from Nighwish, she is excellent, and the varying effects that are occasionally applied to her voice work extremely well (I guess you could compare her to the evanesence singer, though i actually prefer Lunatica's).

Of the 10 tracks, the first is a rather lacklustre and fluffy intro, but the album picks up immediately after, with Avalon, (one of my favourites). All the remaining tracks are delivered at a cracking pace, bar the title track, which i found plodded along with an overly pretentious male vocal track to back it up.

Fables and Dreams does not have a great deal of longetivity, and the band still needs some refinement. I pray that they stay closer to the gothic scene than the fluffier side of this type of music - more tough guitar riffs would contrast well with the vocals. This album is thoroughly enjoyable and Lunatica can only go up from here
