Biography

Edit

Singer-songwriter, producer and actress Macy Gray is known for her raspy voice, most notably put to effect on the international smash hit single "I Try" in 1999. That was one of the biggest hits of the year and it won Gray a Grammy Award and two further nominations. It also helped her debut album On How Life Is sell over seven million copies worldwide.

Shortly afterwards she featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Training Day, before releasing The Id in 2001. It was a flop in the US but enjoyed more success in Europe, and was a chart-topper in the UK. She appeared twice more on cinema screens in this period, landing cameo roles as herself in Spider-Man and Scary Movie 3. Third album The Trouble with Being Myself (2003) didn't perform so well in Europe, and was again met with disappointing sales and reviews in the US.

Macy Gray's fourth album Big (2007) was supposed to be a comeback, and featured production from stars such as will.i.am and Justin Timberlake. However, it was met with more mixed reviews and mediocre sales.
