US DJ and musician Mark Farina was born in Chicago in 1969. Farina started as a DJ, coming up at the same time as Derrick Carter with whom he would later work. His reputation as a DJ grew until he was headlining the Om Records global tour on the strength of the first of his Mushroom Jazz albums. The Mushroom Jazz series of compilations were released between 1996 and 2005. The compilations are a mix of hip-hop, downtempo and house music featuring, in addition to his compositions, artists such as Blue Boy (famous for "Remember Me"), Mr Scruff and Herb Alpert.
