Overview Edit

Hospital Music is the third solo album by Canadian musician Matthew Good. It was released on July 31, 2007 Good performed nearly all the instruments himself, with the exception of drums and a few guitar and bass parts. The album artwork was painted by Vancouver resident Jeremy Crowle.

"Born Losers" was featured as the "Single of the Week" on the American iTunes Store for the week starting July 31, 2007. Hospital Music debuted at #17 on the iTunes charts in its opening week, a feat which was called "unprecedented for an album with no label affiliation whatsoever." The feat was referred to as "the story the record labels have always feared." The debut was also significant due to Good's lack of previous success in the U.S. market, where he had previously released only one album - 2001's Beautiful Midnight, which failed to make a major impact on the U.S. charts (due to Good's lack of co-operation).

Hospital Music debuted at #1 on the Canadian albums chart, selling over 11,000 copies in its first week of release. The album was certified Gold in Canada on January 16, 2008.

It was nominated at the 2008 Juno Awards for Best Rock Album.

5 stars Stunned...
I waited months to review Matthew Good's previous full length album "White Light Rock and Roll Review" because despite the fact that I knew it was good, I didn't really connect with it the way I did his earlier works. The reason I waited so long was I wanted to make sure my reaction wasn't through an impatience on my part to let the album do its work on me as a listener. I had then, and still have a faith in Good as an artist to bring something new across in his music that exists somewhere outsi…

2 stars lyrics and lots of them.
I own all mat good albums. Him or his band rarely have disappointed me.

This in an exception. Long drug out songs that seem to go nowhere.

I like bits of this album, but out of 15 songs I can only listen to 2

of them all the way through. I admit I'm more of a beat rhythm person and this album is mostly lyrics. Most songs are quite long and slow. It's painful to listen to for me. Maybe that's the point. His divorce and bipolar issues are painful and this is his attempt to convey that to his listener. Great! Now I'm depressed.
