I Listen to This One Over and Over...I absolutely love Maura O'Connell's voice, and while I like all of her albums, Stories is the one that I play over and over, the one that I take on road trips, the one that I pretty much have memorized. A really fine mix of songs---my especial favorite is "Half Moon Bay," a haunting memory-song which never fails to get me weepy. If you're buying your first O'Connell album, this would definitely be my recommendation.
Pleasant but not MemorableMaura O'Connell has a fine and pleasing voice and she uses it well. She deservedly has a large following which includes me. This album, though, is not her best work. This runs contrary to popular opinion but it is my opinion. There is nothing wrong with her work here, I just didn't find any stellar examples. Its good, pleasant background stuff but not something to make me sit up and take note.
