Born in Cuba, raised on the streets of South Gate California, Mellow would end up forming a group with his brother Sen Dog, DJ Muggs and B Real called DVX (Devastating Vocal Xcellence) and started doing shows up and down Los Angeles at local house parties and anywhere where they could.
After a few years Mellow Man was signed by Delicious Vinyl then to Capital forever establishing himself as a solo artist.He recorded his debut album Escape From Havana in 1989 on Capitol. Almost one year later, the single "Mentirosa" became a Top 20 hit with Ace rapping over a crafty hook from Santana's "Evil Ways." The song would not only make Mellow Man Ace the first Latin Rap artist to reach Gold and Platinum in the U.S. but also across Latin America becoming a direct influence on the global Latin Rap landscape preparing us for today's movement.
He become one of the busiest Latinos in hip-hop, recording his follow-up album Brother With Two Tongues, writing songs for Cypress Hill's debut album, taking part in movie soundtracks, making daily TV appearances and working on numerous side-projects.
After more than a few years of being silent, Mellow Man Ace again teamed up with his Soul Assassin family in the year 2000 and dropped his third album From Darkness To The Light, including new classics like "Guillotine Tactics" and "Te La Fe." He wrote six songs for Cypress Hill's Spanish album Los Grandes Exitos which received Billboard's Latin Rap Album of the Year 2000 and a Gold Album in Mexico.
In 2002, Mellow Man was inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame, marking his name into history books forever. In 2004 he dropped his fourth solo album Vengo A Cobrar.
