Overview Edit

Tical is the debut album by american rapper, and Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man. It was released by Def Jam in 1994, making it the first Wu-Tang solo album released after the group's debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The word "tical" is a slang term for a blunt that has been laced with an adulterant, typically a sweetener or another psychoactive substance. The album title is also a play on the word "methodical".

Upon release, Tical was a commercial success, reaching #4 on the Billboard 200, and earning a platinum certification from the RIAA on July 13, 1995. This success was driven by its two singles, "Bring the Pain" and "Release Yo' Delf". The album has since been hailed by several music critics as a classic hip hop album. This may be attributed to the gritty and dark production, which was handled almost exclusively by the RZA. Its success is matched by its influence as a major piece in the East Coast hip hop renaissance.

5 stars What's That S*** They Be Smokin?
Everyone waited after hearing the Enter the Wu album. Everyone waited to see what would come next. Never before had hip hop seen a group so filled with talent and promise made up of so many different members. 2 years later, they got Tical.

This album picked up right where Enter the Wu left off, further developing the Wu-Tang style of beats and rhymes. Method Man had established himself as a standout talent on the Enter the Wu album and people knew they would be hearing and seeing a lot more of …

3 stars Smoky, hazy, mesmerizing..... an album that grows on you
Upon first listen, Method Man's solo debut "Tical" may disappoint Wu-Tang Clan fans used to the raucous beats and crazed delivery on most of the tracks from Wu-Tang's "Enter the 36 Chambers."

It actually took me a few listen to understand how great this album is.

Imagine Wu-Tang Clan slowed down, thrown beneath a haze of tical, as Method Man unleashes his demons. "Tical" is the soundtrack of a man's soul crying out against the wickedness and social plagues that hamper his community.

The beats an…
