Michael Giacchino is the US born composer whose work includes TV series, video games and film scores.
Avid film fan Giacchino studied film production at The School of Visual Arts before moving on to evening classes to study composition at Julliard. During this time he was working in the publicity dept at both Universal and Disney studios. After moving to Disney's studios at Burbank, he was given the opportunity to write score for a video game adaptation of the Jurassic Park story for Dreamworks. He has produced other video game music, the most successful of which is the Medal of Honor series, for which he received video game industry awards.
Giacchino has also worked for the small screen, his best known works include the Alias and Lost soundtracks, the latter earning him an Emmy. He has also received awards for his film work, his first film, The Incredibles, earned him a number of awards and two Grammy nominations.
In 2009, Giacchino – while continuing to write the score for Lost (and additionally, Fringe) – also composed for three major films: Land of the Lost, Star Trek and Up. For his work on the latter two movies, he received separate Academy Award nominations, winning the prize for "Up."
The Oscar statue was the latest award he'd won for his musical contribution to the animated film; he had previously received a Grammy, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award for the score.
His other film work includes Mission Impossible III and Ratatouille.
In something of a departure from work for the screen, he also provided music for the Space Mountain ride at the Disney theme park in Anaheim.
