Michelle Branch is an American mainstream melodic singer-songwriter who released her debut album Broken Bracelet in 2000, aged 17. Since then she has released two further platinum selling albums and has formed a more country music-oriented duo with Jessica Harp called The Wreckers.
Her promise showed when she was still young; she learnt to play the guitar and wrote her first song by the time she was 14. Facilitated by her family, who agreed to school her at home while she continued to practice and compose, she released Broken Bracelet independently. She landed her first recording contract shortly after. Her first major label release was a year later, 2001's The Spirit Room, with Maverick. It went platinum and spawned the US Billboard No.6 single "All You Wanted".
In 2002 she collaborated with Carlos Santana on "The Game of Love", a US top five hit which went on to win a Grammy.
The following year she released Hotel Paper which, while successful, failed to achieve the heights of The Spirit Room.
But she is still young; she has recorded three albums, had several hits and collaborated with respected musicians including Carlos Santana and Sheryl Crow. Perhaps the best is yet to come.
