Mick Jones

Mick Jones, founder and lead guitarist of The Clash, once said “If you are a young working-class boy in London, you have to make a choice between sport or music, I made the choice for music." But if you're an older ex-punk rocker in London, you can also apparently make the choice to be a "guerrilla librarian." In a vacant office space under a motorway in London, Jones has opened The Rock 'n' Roll Public Library, an innovative exhibition of over 10,000 pieces of music ephemera which Jones has been collecting throughout his life. Members of the public are invited to fully interact with the items on display; they can touch and explore the exhibits, or avail themselves of the Book2Net kiosk which allows them to scan objects and text on to a memory stick. Jones himself will be busy in the recording studio next door, working with up-and-coming bands for the Strummerville Foundation, an arts charity set up in honor of Jones' ex-bandmate Joe Strummer. The exhibition is free to visit and will run until August 25.
