Miranda Lambert Wins Big at ACM Awards
Apr, 4 2011
On Sunday night, Country music’s biggest stars gathered at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Hosted by veteran Reba and first timer Blake Shelton, the show got off to a slightly awkward start. If you happen to follow Blake on Twitter, you know that it was very hard for him to tone it down for a family TV audience.
The big winner of the night was Miranda Lambert, who took home four trophies for Top Female Vocalist, Single, Song, and Video of the Year.
Lady Antebellum won two awards (after their five award sweep of the GRAMMY awards in February) that Miranda wasn’t nominated for: Top Vocal Group and Album of the Year. Lead singer Charles Kelly accepted the Album of the Year award proudly, saying, "Thank you, Miranda Lambert, for winning this last year and not being in the category this year. That really helps a lot."
At the end of the show, Taylor Swift took home her first Entertainer of the Year award, which is a fan voted category. Earlier in the night, she performed the single “Mean” from Speak Now, which includes the incredibly apropos line calling out critics for “grumbling on about how I can’t sing.” Her feigned surprise and subsequent tears seemed all too familiar.
