The rock world was saddened to hear of the death of Mitch Mitchell, the last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Portland, on November 12. He had just finished playing a series of Experience Hendrix concerts across the US. While Hendrix was alive, Mitchell played on all three Experience albums and participated in the legendary Isle of Wight and Woodstock festival performances. He was considered to be one of the world’s best rock drummers and is credited with pioneering the fusion style, which combined elements of jazz and rock drumming. As news of his death became known a statement was released by Janie Hendrix on behalf of the Hendrix estate, saying “We're all devastated to hear of Mitch's passing. He was a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and a true friend.”
