Monica Denise Arnold is an American R&B singer-songwriter and sometime actress born in 1980.
Her first album was the triple platinum-selling Miss Thang on the Rowdy Records label, released when she was still only 15 years old. Her follow-up album The Boy Is Mine repeated the triple platinum success of its predecessor, but its release marked the beginning of a difficult personal journey for Monica. In 2000 her boyfriend committed suicide resulting in a period of depression for her. In the end, however, she turned this experience to her benefit and recorded All Eyez on Me in 2002, which was released only in Japan. After considerable re-working, including collaborations with Jazze Pha and Kanye West, the album was reborn as After The Storm in 2003 whereupon it enjoyed solid success in the US
Her most recent release was The Makings of Me (2006) which was moderately well received by the critics but failed to match the commercial success of her earlier albums.
