Morrissey Fans Searched for Meat
Jul, 13 2011
Morrissey has been in the news twice this week, quite a change for the oft-introverted former Smith’s front man. Morrissey, a strict vegetarian, last week was attacked by man’s best friend and reportedly suffered a broken finger after being bitten by a dog. Now from the NME comes news that fans at Moz’s July 8 performance in the UK’s Middlesbrough Town Hall were searched upon entry for meat products.
Certainly some fans have been known to tuck a flask in their jackets, sneak a joint into a show, but I’ve never heard of someone smuggling animal protein into a concert. Actually, that’s not true; I once discovered a Dick’s cheeseburger in my purse during a Pearl Jam show at Seattle’s Key Arena, but it was surreptitiously placed there by a friend. And anyone who’s been to Dick’s might understand wanting a spare for later. I digress…
Apparently Morrissey’s realm of vegetarianism extends quite far, and he insists that venues in which he performs are meat-free. Said concert-goer Mel Stokes, “I know that a few years ago Morrissey stopped a gig because someone was throwing sausages at him. And they have removed burger vans from his gigs in the past, so it was obviously down to that again.”
The Meat Is Murder singer apparently insisted, earlier this year, that Belgian music festival Lokerse Feesten, ban all meat from the site on the day he is due to perform.

Bigmouth Morrissey Strikes Again
Sep, 5 2010
Morrissey has let his tongue slip again, describing the Chinese as a "subspecies" due to their attitude to animal rights, in an interview with The Guardian.
Speaking to poet Simon Armitage, Morrissey was disparaging about other singers and chart musicians, but he reserved his harshest words for the 1.3 billion people of China. "Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare?" he said. "Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies."
Morrissey is a well known animal lover, and loose talker. The Smiths' second album was called Meat Is Murder, and last year he walked off stage at Coachella because he could smell cooking meat. He's also had to deny allegations of racism before, having written songs with names such as "Asian Rut" and "National Front Disco," and frequently criticized the levels of immigration into Britain.
Morrissey released a statement after his recent comment was published, saying "If anyone has seen the horrific and unwatchable footage of the Chinese cat and dog trade – animals skinned alive – then they could not possibly argue in favour of China as a caring nation. There are no animal protection laws in China and this results in the worst animal abuse and cruelty on the planet. It is indefensible."

Maudlin Morrissey Laments Life, Again
Dec, 20 2009
Morrissey has apologized to fans for his latest album just seven weeks after it was released. The former Smiths singer accepted that Swords, a compilation of recent b-sides and a bonus live CD, was a mistake. “I am sorry that Swords was such a meek disaster,” he wrote on a fan site. “It was proposed and accepted as a budget-priced CD, yet emerged everywhere as the most expensive CD in the racks.” The L.A.-based indie icon also lamented the state of the music industry, and praised the staff of an English hospital. "The world of music is purely market-driven,” he wrote. "Talent or merit or songs do not enter the equation for a split second; the campaign is the thing, the campaign is what is discussed amongst the public.” He confirmed that his contract with Universal has finished, and said that “record label interest is zero,” but maintained enough perspective to give thanks to those who helped him on the night he collapsed on-stage. ”I spent the night at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where the staff restored my faith in humanity,” he said. “I had no idea such kindness existed.”

The Mozfather needs a rest.

Miserablist fans attending a Morrissey gig at the weekend were left a little more miserable at the weekend when the singer-songwriter collapsed on stage and his performance was cut short. The 50 year old was performing in Swindon, England as part of a current tour in support of his newly released b-sides album, Swords. This tour follows hard on the heels of the last, which complemented Years of Refusal, his ninth solo studio album since the disbanding of The Smiths in 1987. The hefty touring schedule is quite a feat for any star in their middle years and Moz’s latest performance schedule has been beset by health concerns – this is not the first time dates have had to be canceled as a result of his ill health. Though he was released from hospital after a one night stay on this particular occasion, doctors have advised him to rest properly in order “to ensure a complete recuperation”.

Morrissey
Feb, 2 2009
February marks the 60th birthday of the 7” single. Introduced in 1949 by RCA, the single eventually became the format of choice on jukeboxes across the world, and millions of pop hungry teenagers collected their favorite songs on disc. Single sales formed the basis of chart countdowns in many countries and the weekly race to the top was established. However, as a single song option, 7” singles have long been overshadowed by first CDs, and then the advent of the mp3 download. The survival of the format is only furthered by the continuing endorsements of the many vinyl purists who have pledged to keep the flame alive – including, it seems, former Smiths singer Morrissey, even if his methods are novel. Nestled on the inside sleeve of his latest single “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris” is a startling image of the 49 year old singer and his band completely nude, save for some strategically positioned 7" singles protecting their modesty. That’s quite a birthday surprise!
