My Morning Jacket are a Louisville, Kentucky indie-rock band who formed in 1998. Their first two albums, The Tennessee Fire (1999) and At Dawn (2001), were released on the independent label Darla Records, and won them a small fanbase. For their third album they signed to a major label (ATO Records is a subsidiary of Sony BMG) and released It Still Moves in 2003.
For the recording of fourth album Z, My Morning Jacket moved to a studio in the mountains and brought in a producer for the first time: John Leckie. The changes had a big effect: Z was a huge success, winning rave reviews from many music magazines and websites. At the end of 2005, Z was voted as the Album of the Year by Billboard and featured highly in many other critics lists.
My Morning Jacket recently released their fifth album, Evil Urges.
