Mýa’s biggest hits have been as a guest performer: she’s had international attention from Pras Michel’s “Ghetto Supastar”, and with a host of lingerie-clad collaborators on the Moulin Rouge! version of “Lady Marmalade”.
Debut single “It’s All About Me” reached the Top 10 of the Hot 100 in 1998, while her self-titled debut album went double platinum. The same year she featured prominently on Pras’ worldwide hit “Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)”, which was also nominated for a Grammy. Second album Fear of Flying (2000) got off to a slow start, but second single “Case of the Ex” was a Top 5 hit in the US and UK, boosting sales of the album to over a million. In 2001 Mýa collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Pink and Missy Elliot on a cover of Labelle’s “Lady Marmalade”, for the film Moulin Rouge!. The single topped the Hot 100 and several other charts worldwide and even won a Grammy.
Mýa began dabbling in acting with roles in Chicago and Shall We Dance? among others. Third album Moodring (2003) charted at No.3 on the Billboard 200 and featured the minor hit “My Love Is Like… Wo”. A fourth album, Liberation, was released onto the Japanese iTunes store in 2007. It is set to be released along with a second disc Smoke & Mirrors in the US in 2008.
