In My Own Words is the debut album from American singer-songwriter Ne-Yo, released on February 28, 2006. Four singles were released from the album, "Stay", "So Sick", "When You're Mad", and "Sexy Love". The first single, "Stay", was not as successful is its successors, being Ne-Yo's only song so far to not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 301,000 copies sold. Ne-Yo went on tour in August 2006 with Chris Brown and Dem Franchize Boyz. The album was subsequently certified platinum with 1.6 million copies sold in the U.S., and 2 million copies sold worldwide. Upon its release, the album received generally positive reviews from most music critics, based on an aggregate score of 69/100 from Metacritic.

I first saw Ne-Yo when I saw his video for the song with Peedi Crakk entitled "Stay". The song was pretty good but since Ne-Yo was a new artist I wasn't sure if I was going to purchase his CD. I don't listen to the radio that often, because of my CD collection, but I had alot of people asking me if I had heard Ne-Yo's song called "So Sick" and I was like no, not yet.

3 stars Ne-Yo has a lot of potential......Well just see how far he can go.
Ne-Yo's "In My Own Words" is not bad at all. He's already had a prolific career as a songwriter and this is now his time to shine as a complete full-fledged artist. This set contains a good mixture of love songs, a ballad or two, some mid-tempo radio jams, and a few dance grooves. It's not the perfect album -- but it's one of the best we've heard in this genre this year.
