Neil Diamond's career as a singer is more than matched by his prodigious output as a songwriter for other artists: many of his songs have appeared as covers by artists as diverse as Deep Purple (“Kentucky Woman”) and UB40 (“Red, Red Wine”).
Diamond has released 29 albums since his debut album The Feel of Neil Diamond in 1966. 2005’s 12 Songs proved to be one of his most successful and critically acclaimed of recent years, but that success was eclipsed in 2008 by the No.1 success of Home Before Dark -- a No.1 which took over 40 years to achieve.
However, he is best remembered for the albums recorded during the pinnacle of his career in the 1970s and 80s, including the popular multi-platinum selling The Jazz Singer, from the soundtrack to the film of the same name. He has sold over 100 million albums worldwide during his long career.
Diamond was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984, and though critical opinion remains variable, his legions of dedicated fans can testify to his enduring appeal as a performer.
