Singer-songwriter Neko Case moved to Vancouver, BC, at the age of 24 to attend Art School. While there she released two country-tinged solo albums, and collaborated with several local bands, including performing vocals on some early tracks by The New Pornographers. When their debut LP Mass Romantic (2000) was released, it attracted strong praise from the media and brought her own work to wider attention.
Blacklisted (2002) was her third solo album, but the first to really catch the press and public's attention. In 2003, she featured again on the New Pornographers' album Electric Version, and a live album of a Case solo performance was released in 2004 entitled The Tigers Have Spoken. In 2005, a third New Pornographers album was released featuring Case (Twin Cinema), and in 2006 she released her most acclaimed solo album yet: Fox Confessor Brings The Flood was widely praised by critics, and was the Album of the Year according to the music editor of Amazon.com.
