Overview Edit

Suit is one of the two albums (along with Sweat) that St. Louis rapper Nelly released in 2004. It is the album with more R&B groove, and it seems to be the more popular album of the two, by debuting at #1 with 396,000 copies sold in its first week on the Billboard 200, while on the same week, the Sweat album debuted at #2 selling around 342,000 copies in its first week on the same chart. The album features songs like: "My Place", "Over and Over", "N Dey Say", "Pretty Toes" and "Play it Off" (the first three of these were released as singles). It received a Grammy nomination. Later on in early 2005, Nelly released an album titled Sweat / Suit which combines hits from both the Sweat and Suit albums in to one CD. The UK edition of this album features the remixes of "Dilemma" & "Ride Wit Me" also available on Nelly's compilation CD "Da Derrty Versions: The Reinvention" It was the result of a minor controversy when Nelly referred Sweat and Suit as "The White Album for hip-hop," while appearing on Total Request Live.

4 stars The Softer Side of Nelly
Where most rappers are looking towards the true gangsta image, "Suit" seems likes somewhat of a departure. Its shows a more R&B based rap, which is a great disguise on the first single, "My Place" featuring Jaheim. The sampling on "My Place" is ingenius and it is one of the biggest hits of the year (for me at least). My favorite songs are "My Place", "Pretty Toes", "Paradise", "She Don't Know My Name", "Nobody Knows" (brilliant job as usual Anthony Hamilton!), and "Die For You". Overall, I'd recommend this album to anyone!

3 stars Can't even hate it's aight
The Suit disc is by far the more interesting disc of the two. There are only 11 songs here, but thankfully they're relatively diverse compared to those of Sweat. All except three of them are collabos, and often the collaborators steal the show, reducing Nelly to guest status on his own album. "Play It Off," a tiptop-shelf Neptunes joint boasting a great Pharrell vocal contribution, kicks off the album marvelously, and the next two tracks - "Pretty Toes" and "My Place" - are top draws also.
