New Order
Jun, 15 2009
When bassist Peter Hook announced in 2007 that New Order had split up, it took the rest of the band by surprise. It turned out to be a unilateral decision by Hook to leave, who then made the assumption that the other band members wouldn't continue without him. Singer Bernard Sumner told the BBC: "Basically [Hook] left the band, that's all I want to say about it. We split into two factions. There's me, Steve and Phil. The other is Peter." Now the larger faction is continuing without Hook, but they've formed a new group for the purposes, and hired a rather good bass player to fill his shoes: Blur's Alex James. The new band, called Bad Lieutenant, have a debut album due in October. Sumner said: "I'm very proud of it, it's a very good album. It's pretty guitary too because we've got three guitarists in the band." A tour is also planned, where Sumner says they might be joined by more Manchester musicians - but guitarists need not apply.
