The Newsboys are a Christian pop/rock band formed in Australia in 1985 by bassist Sean Taylor, vocalist John James, drummer Peter Furler and guitarist George Perdikis. They are amongst the best selling Christian artists of last twenty years.
The bands' debut album, Read All About It was released 1988 and the band slowly began to build a loyal following. It was with their fifth album, 1994's Going Public, that the band made a big impact on the Christian music scene. The album won the Dove Award for the Best Rock Album of the Year, while the single "Shine" won the Dove for The Rock Recorded Song of the Year. CCM magazine listed "Shine" amongst the 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music list published in 2006.
Despite line-up changes the band have maintained their position of Christian rock's most popular acts, picking up plaudits along the way. The single "Entertaining Angels", from the 1998 album Step Up To The Microphone won the Dove for the Short Form Music Video of the Year. Their 2003 release Adoration: The Worship Album contained "You are My King (Amazing Love)" which spent over a year on the Hot Christians Songs chart.
The Newsboys Greatest Hits album is due out at the end of 2007.
