Overview Edit

Moseley Shoals is a 1996 album by the British rock group Ocean Colour Scene, that was released during the Britpop era. The album reached #2 in the UK charts, selling over 600,000 copies.

The first single taken from the album was "The Riverboat Song", which was popularised by Chris Evans on TFI Friday. "The Day we Caught the Train" reached number four in the charts, with "You've Got It Bad" and "The Circle" also reaching the top 10. "One for the Road" (with its tune inspired by The Eagles and lyrics referencing Leah Betts), was also due to be released, but the band decided to concentrate on 1997 release Marchin' Already. By the end of 1996, "Moseley Shoals" had sold 1.3 million copies.

The word Moseley is taken from a suburb of the same name in south Birmingham, UK, where three of the band members were born. The album title as a whole is a punning nod to the city of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, home to several famous 60s soul recording studios.

In 1998, Q magazine readers voted Moseley Shoals the 33rd greatest album of all time.

The memorial by which the band can be seen standing on the front cover is the Jephson Memorial in The Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa, UK.

5 stars This is Special
When i first got this cd, I initially thought I had wasted a few dimes. But when I really listened to it, I found myself thinking of a concert with OCS and Kula Shaker together, and George, John, Paul and Ringo standing on the side of the stage saying YES!!!!!!!!! This is where we wanted you all to go! So few went, even fewer did it well, But OCS and Kula Shaker did it the best.

This is excellent music.

It's okay, but I've never been able to warm to these tunes. They just don't stick with me.
