Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark are an English synth-pop group who were formed in the late 70s by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. They enjoyed several Top Ten singles at the turn of the decade, including: "Enola Gay", which reached No.8 in the UK singles chart in 1980; "Souvenir" which got to No.3, and "Joan Of Arc" which peaked at No.5. "Maid of Orleans (the Waltz Joan of Arc)" was a worldwide hit in 1982. Their albums were also very popular, with Architecture & Morality (1981) and Dazzle Ships (1983) both reaching the Top 5. "If You Leave" was featured on the film Pretty In Pink in 1985 and broke the Top 5 in America.
The core duo of the band split in 1989, but McCluskey recruited some new members and continued under the name OMD. The 1991 album Sugar Tax was a huge success, including the hit singles "Sailing On The Seven Seas" and "Pandora's Box (It's A Long, Long Way)".
In 2007, the so-called "classic" line-up of the band agreed to reform. They have been touring extensively and often play Architecture & Morality in it's entirety. In 2010, they released their new album "History of Modern".
