Easter is an album by the Patti Smith Group, released in March 1978 on Arista Records (see 1978 in music). Produced by Jimmy Iovine, it is regarded as the group's commercial breakthrough, owing to the success of the single, "Because the Night" (co-written by Bruce Springsteen and Smith), which reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 in the UK.

5 stars A Rock and Roll Masterpiece
In early 1978, when this album was released, I ran a small record shop in Lancaster, Pa. I had been intrigued by "HORSES" and even more intrigued by its successor "RADIO ETHIOPIA", which contained some of the most provocative rock to come from the early American punk scene. So I hear Patti Smith is the forerunner to such female vocalist/musician/poets as Ani DiFranco, PJ Harvey and Liz Phair - all I can say is Vive Evolution! I'd take any of those three exceptional artists over Patti Smith any day.

I'm glad I didn't waste my money.
