Overview Edit

Brighten the Corners is the fourth studio album released by Pavement. All songs were written by lead singer Stephen Malkmus, apart from "Date with Ikea" and "Passat Dream". The title is likely a reference to Ella Fitzgerald's Brighten the Corner, or its title track "Brighten the Corner Where You Are" which was a theme song for Billy Sunday. It is also the only Pavement album to feature a full lyric sheet.

Matador Records released an expanded 2CD edition of this album under the title Brighten the Corners: Nicene Creedence Edition on December 9, 2008.

This one seems to be about returning to the suburbs as an adult, and coming to terms with it even if it isn't ideal. There are interesting cultural references in th…

3 stars If it wasn't Pavement, it might get 4
This is a good album. It's a damn good album. Unfortunately, it's also a Pavement Album, and this is (as far as I'm concerned) their weakest record. Overall, it's just missing something that all of their other releases shined with.

Some songs, like Stereo, Shadey Lane, and Embassy Row show a hint of that something, but it just doesn't present itself long enough to put itself in the same category as their other releases.

The joyful experimentation of Wowee Zowee, the utter catchyness of Crooked…
