Overview Edit

Vitalogy is the third studio album by the American grunge band Pearl Jam, released on November 22, 1994 through Epic Records. Pearl Jam wrote and recorded Vitalogy while touring behind its previous album Vs. (1993). The music on the record was more diverse than previous releases, and consists of aggressive rock songs, ballads, and several experimental tracks.

Vitalogy was packaged in a booklet that replicated material from a 1920s medical book. The album was first released on vinyl record, followed by a release in other formats two weeks later on December 6, 1994. Upon its CD release, Vitalogy became the second-fastest-selling album in history, behind only Vs. The album has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

But there was also filler. Strange music. We're talking Revolution 9, Rocky Racoon, Why Don't We Do It In the Road, and several others.

In 1994, Pearl Jam released Vitalogy. Although different in sound, it was no different in content. On this album we had moments of sheer brilliance. Immortality, Cordua…

2 stars Brave but inconsistent.
Two albums under their belt, Pearl Jam returned to the studio with Brendan O'Brien to record their densest and most difficult album of their career-- the band appeared to have little idea how it wanted to pursue the future, and it shot off in a dozen directions.

The material works best when Vedder seems to be fully behind the material-- his slab of rage on "Not For You" (a thematic continuation of "Blood" and the second single from the album), the delicate beauty of loss in "Nothingman", the st…
