Biography

Edit

People Under The Stairs (often abbreviated as "P.U.T.S.") are an underground hip hop group from Los Angeles, California. P.U.T.S. is composed of two MCs, Thes One and Double K. Both members are also talented at DJing (Double K performs all of the scratching and cutting on their albums), and Thes One has become known in the underground hip hop community as a major producer, having worked with J-Live, Giant Panda, and Cut Chemist, among others. The group has released seven albums since their formation in 1997.

P.U.T.S. employs a rap style similar to that of A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, and fellow Los Angeles group Ugly Duckling. They favor more traditional forms of DJing. They employ the method of searching Record shops for rare funk and soul records, from which they can find a break or beat that can be looped or stored on an MPC (Musical Production Center).

They are "one of the most prominent underground hip-hop groups" and are known for "jazzy samples, danceable beats, intricate rhyming skills, and laid-back humor" which "recalls hip-hop's golden age". P.U.T.S. is also renowned for their live shows, which feature a large amount of crowd interaction and humor.
