"The Everly Brothers of the British Invasion" were Gordon Waller and Peter Asher, brother of Jane, girlfriend of Paul McCartney--hence the Beatle-penned hits "A World Without Love," "Nobody I Know", "I Don't Want To See You Again," and "Woman." Gene Clark, when approaching Jim McGuinn about forming what would eventually become the Byrds, reportedly had in mind a sort of American-style Peter & Gordon act. Waller didn't do much after the duo split in 1968, but Asher had a storied career on the other side of the microphone in front of him, signing a then-unknown James Taylor to the Beatles' Apple Records in 1968 as head of Apple's A&R department and going on to produce records by Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs, Diana Ross, and Neil Diamond, just to name a few.
