Polly Samson was born in London in 1962 to a novelist mother and a diplomatic father. She started out as a journalist for some popular UK magazines and newspapers and eventually made headway at Johnathan Cape. She became involved with maverick Heathcote Williams, a writer and actor, and they had a son Charlie. After a year Heathcote left Polly and Charlie. She was on her "uppers" for a while when mutual friends who had been trying to hook her up with Pink Floyd's frontman David Gilmour finally succeeded. She co-wrote music for Pink Floyd's The Division Bell, and the two have never been apart since. While Pink Floyd was on tour for The Division Bell (Pulse tour), David and Polly married on July 29th, 1994. It's David's second marriage: from 1975-1990 he was married to an American female by the name of Ginger and they had 4 children from that union (Alice, Clare, Sara and Matthew). Eventually David adopted Polly's son Charlie and since they have had 3 of their own children (Joe, Gabriel and Romany Rose). There is a 16 year age gap between Polly and David.
Polly Samson has published two books, one called Lying In Bed and the other Out of the Picture. Lying in Bed is a collection of short stories, of which David's favorite is apparently "Lucky".
