Portishead is the second album of the Bristol-based group Portishead, released in 1997 on GO! Beat Records. The album reached #2 on the UK Album Chart and #21 on the Billboard 200 chart.

On 3 December 2008, Universal Music Japan released Dummy and Portishead as limited SHM-CD version.

Portishead created a unique sound in their debut "Dummy," combining smoky jazz and trip-hop. So an equally good follow-up was a pretty tall order. Enter the self-titled "Portishead," which ups the eerie noir feel while not abandoning the cool electronic edge. In the months before their return, it seems appropriate to revisit their older material.

3 stars Still a good album
I guess I have to compare this to the first album, as it was the reason I bought this. I had an instant attraction to their first album (mainly bought that because of the rave reviews) and I enjoy something new. I read that a lot of people love this, and I still think this is good, but I wouldn't rate it as an equal. The sound and atmosphere of this album seems so typical of Portishead... It was if I was wanting to expect something magically different. I think that is where I found my difference…
