Overview Edit

Herzeleid (dated German for "Heartache") is the debut album by German rock band Rammstein. It was released on 29 September 1995. The album's original cover depicted the bandmembers' upper bodies without clothing. This caused critics to accuse the band of trying to sell themselves as "poster boys for the master race." The songs "Heirate Mich" and "Rammstein" are featured in David Lynch's film Lost Highway. The direct translation of "Herzeleid" is "Heartache"; however, according to an interview on Talking Metal's podcast in 2007, Richard Kruspe stated that it doesn't translate to "Heartache", but in the German language, it simply means "Heartbreak". The album is a culmination of the relationship troubles of all but one of the six band members, hence the title "Herzeleid".

5 stars Solid debut
The great Teutonic goth/industrial/heavy metal band Rammstein announced themselves loudly to the world with the release of their first studio album "Herzeleid" ("Heartbreak"). What an announcement it was, and continues to be. The band, and their worldwide legions of fans, have not looked back since.

The first track, "Wollt Ihr das Bett in flammen sehen" ("Would you like to see the bed in flames") not only kicks the album into high gear from the outset, but also vividly stamps Rammstein's inimit…

3 stars Emits a lot of energy.
I got this first album from Rammstein just a few weeks ago. I've listened to it quite a bit during the time that I've had it. It didn't take too long for me to get comfortable with it (grew on me quickly). It's really cool to be able to listen to a German band that sings in their native tongue--it adds an interesting element to their music. While I don't think that Herzeleid is great, I still consider it to be pretty good and satisfying. The disc is an energetic and aggressive ride from beginnin…
