RBD grew out of the Mexican teen soap opera Rebelde, in which students of a fictitious private boarding school form a band. When the group transcended its fictional genesis, it was called RBD to distinguish it from its origins.
The band released its debut, Rebelde, in Mexico in 2004 and America early in 2005. A Portuguese version of the album was released in Brazil in 2005. Both versions of the album hit the charts, achieving platinum certification in Mexico and Brazil and reaching the Top 100 of the Billboard charts in America. This success was continued with the release of successive studio albums Nuestro Amor (2005), Celestial (2006), and Rebels (2006), which was their first English-language release. In keeping with their debut they have continued to release Portuguese versions alongside their Spanish-language albums.
Their most recent release is 2007's Empezar Desde Cero.
