"Old Ramon" indeedWell, after 3 years it's finally out. Having been slipped a promo copy about a month ago I've had some time to form impressions of "Old Ramon" so here goes...On first listen, long time RHP fans may find it hard to suppress their collective gag reflex at "Wop A Din Din" - Kozelek's tribute to his cat. RIP RHP?3 1/2Their (last?) release possessed little of the trademark acoustic melancholia, instead presenting a mixed bag with a few partly neutered sing-alongs and an intriguing addition of polished electric guitar textures. Things are exciting when Kozelek's deep melodies swirl towards that more electrified feel, but even when sleep-walking through textbook mellow protocol, remain engaging enough to ask for more.
