Relient K are a Christian rock band who have their roots in Canton, Ohio. In 2000, they were discovered by dc Talk’s Toby McKeehan and signed to his Gotee Records label. A mix of humour and pop culture references, with tracks including “Marilyn Manson Ate My Girlfriend” and “May the Horse be with You”, were trademark of the band’s earlier work.
The band’s success began to cross over to mainstream audiences and the Mmhmm album, released in 2004, marked a watershed for the band. They toned down the humour of their earlier work and went for a straight rock sound. Promoted by the single “Be My Escape”, which made it to MTV’s Top 10, the album subsequently became a gold seller and received the Best Rock Album Award at the Doves in 2006. The band’s sixth LP, Five Score and Seven Years Ago, became their most successful to date, debuting at No.6 on the Billboard 200.
