Richard Wright
Sep, 16 2008
Music fans across the world will be saddened to learn that Richard Wright, keyboard player and founder member of legendary prog-rock band Pink Floyd, has died after a short battle with cancer. Though the history of the band was fraught with personal tensions, his contribution was crucial to the success of Floyd. He was a regular songwriter and singer in the early Syd Barrett-led era of the band, and contributed much to the landmark 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon, which remains one of the best selling releases of all time. The band last reformed in 2005 for the Live 8 performance, and fans have long been clamoring for a full reunion, but Wright’s death marks a conclusive end to those hopes. Writing on his website, guitarist David Gilmour said: "He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound."
