Rickie Lee Jones is the US-born singer-songwriter, best known for her 1979 pop hit "Chuck E's in Love".
Jones began playing clubs on the West Coast in the mid-70s, sometimes singing, sometimes performing beat poet-style spoken word monologues. A four song demo got her a contact with Warner Bros. and she released her self-titled debut in 1979. The album featured “Chuck E's in Love” which helped take the album to the Top 5 of the pop charts. The album also earned Jones five Grammy nominations including Best New Artist, which she won.
Her subsequent releases saw a diverse range of collaborators and changes in style. The Magazine album was recorded with film score composer James Newton Howard, while she enlisted Scottish band the Blue Nile for the Flying Cowboys album. Pop Pop is an album of covers, with tracks which range from the psychedelia of Jimi Hendrix to the tin pan alley of Sammy Cahn.
Jones continued the themes of diversity with album releases through the 90s and into the new millennium. Her fans stuck with her and she has consistently charted on the Billboard 200.
