Rihanna Raids The Dressing Up Box
May, 29 2010
The fourth U.S. single to be released from Rihanna's platinum-selling Rated R album is “Rockstar 101” and it features the guitar licks of revered guitar hero, Slash. However, the bubble-haired rocker is nowhere to be seen in the accompanying video. Instead, we are treated to Rihanna, resplendent in Slash regalia, doing her best sexy, moody rockstar impression.
However, as Slash recently admitted in an interview with MTV News, "I was supposed to actually be in that video. I played on the song, and they called me up to ask me to play in the video, but my record was just coming out, and I was sort of worn thin." However, he admits, “The video is way better with her being me than with me being me. All things considered, it brings an element of sexuality to it that I probably wouldn't have been capable of.”
Next on Rihanna’s busy schedule is another collaboration, this time with British boy-band JLS of whom she has high hopes, “They can sing, they can dance, they look good, actually they look very good.”
If they look that good, hopefully RiRi will be happy to let them appear as themselves in the accompanying video.

Rihanna Finally Speaks About Chris Brown
Nov, 7 2009
On the way to Febraury’s Grammy awards ceremony, Chris Brown and Rihanna had an argument which became violent, with Brown hitting, choking and biting his girlfriend. Brown was eventually sentenced to five years probation and six months community service, while Rihanna maintained a silence on the incident. This week she broke that silence in an interview with Glamour magazine in which she revealed her hurt at the online reaction to the incident. When TMZ published pictures of a bruised and battered Rihanna two weeks after the assault, the public felt pity and the press went crazy, but poor Rihanna just felt disappointed and taken advantage of. "I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears," she said. "I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it's my life." Now she hopes to make some good out of a bad situation. "Domestic violence is a big secret. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard. Now I can help speak for those women.” Glamour magazine will present Rihanna with a Woman of the Year award at a ceremony next week

When Rihanna was interviewed by LAPD officers following the alleged altercation between her and Chris Brown on Grammy night, the police had to confiscate some items of evidence including, according to reports, a blood-stained Gucci dress. Also taken were items of jewelry worth almost $1.4m, which Rihanna's lawyer now wants back. The four items -- a pair of earrings and three rings -- were loaned to the star for her appearances that night by four companies, who are now understandably anxious to find out where their expensive assets are. With frugality on everyone's minds at the moment, it's a little galling to hear of tiny items of jewelry worth so much money - and as Rihanna's fans well know, she hardly needs the decoration. Meanwhile, the next stage of Chris Brown's prosecution continues this week, with a hearing due to take place in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Brown, who has pleaded "not guilty" in the case, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted.

There are so many ways to measure the size of celebrity -- album sales, gig attendance, music nerd love, paparazzi interest – some are more credible measures than others. What then of an internet measure of success? AllFacebook produces a list of the most popular pages on Facebook and it allows the user to identify musical favorites by showing who has the most fans. Leading the list with an impressive 1.9 million fans is troubled Barbadian Rihanna, and Coldplay nip hard on her heels with 1.7 million. Musical stalwarts include Queen, Pink Floyd and Radiohead, but new blood is represented by pretty boys Jonas Brothers who sit in 16th place and Katy Perry squeezes in at No.20. But internet popularity is fickle, and even Facebook itself is hardly the current zeitgeist. Perhaps the most up to date measure of a celebrity's popularity these days is the size of their Twitter following?

Good Girl Gone Bad Rihanna is set to play Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpar on Feb 13, but it looks like she’ll have to play act a Bad Girl Gone Good instead. Her sexy appearance has caused a significant kerfuffle amongst the Federal Territory PAS Youth, a pressure organization which seeks to preserve the decency of the Muslim majority. Under government guidelines, a female performer must be covered from the top of her chest, including her shoulders, to her knees; advice which has been followed during recent concerts by both Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne. However, in light of recent comments that Rihanna was "sexier and more dangerous" than Lavigne, it would seem that the Barbadian singer has little choice but to cover up. Luckily Rihanna has support at the top: culture minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal confirmed that “our main concern is whether the concert is in line with Malaysian culture, but as the entertainment industry is a very dynamic and creative industry, we must allow our people to have access to it.” Needless to say, ticket sales are buoyant.
