Biography

Edit

Ronnie Milsap is an American country singer whose success in the 70s and 80s crossed over into the mainstream.

He was born with a congenital eye defect which left him blind and resulted him being place in the State School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was there that his musical skills were noticed and nurtured. By the 1960s he was a member of J.J. Cale's band. His first solo release was "Total Disaster" in 1963, followed by "Loving You Is a Natural Thing" in 1970 though he continued to work as a session musician during this time.

After the success of his second solo single and an eponymous debut album (1971) he moved to Nashville and his career began in earnest. Through the next two decades Milsap had a string of No.1 hits on the US Country charts but by the start of the 90s his star began to fade. Nonetheless, he has continued to tour and record and remains well regarded among the country music aficionados.
