Roxette is a Swedish duo whose blend of rock-influenced-pop found its way to the top of the charts across the world in the late 80s. Though their time in the spotlight was brief they amassed huge sales on the basis of their significant single successes, which include their biggest hits, “It Must Have Been Love” and “The Look”.
Both members were successful artists in their homeland by the time they formed Roxette. Their breakthrough album was 1988’s Look Sharp!. It was, in fact, their second release; the first, Pearls of Passion (1986) had failed to make an impact on the charts. Multi-platinum-selling Joyride was released in 1991 and hit No.12 on the Billboard 200, but Roxette’s infectious pop sensibilities were becoming superseded by the rise of grunge and other new genres. Subsequent albums continued to perform well enough, selling in platinum-selling quantities and hitting the upper reaches of the European charts, but their short-lived superstardom was over. Their 2001 album Room Service would be their last for nearly 10 years (though several compilation albums were released in the interim) - singer Marie Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumour in late 2002 and though successfully treated for the condition, needed a lengthy period of rehabilitation before making a full recovery.
The duo reunited on stage for the first time in seven years in May 2009 and have since released two more albums: "Charm School" in early 2011 and "Travelling" in March 2012.
